The Calm Look: “It’s important to create a peaceful space for the bedroom. I like Don’t Touch My Tutu! (it’s from Clark + Kensington’s collab with nail polish gurus, OPI!) because it’s a light, airy color that works well with various decorative details and creates a peaceful environment,” says Ace Design Expert Julie Richard. Read: It won’t clash with everything else you’ve got going on. It’s also a great background to showcase art.

Do you like to add color with layers of fabric or floor coverings? If so, she adds: “Pale colors, like Sheer Mist allow you to mix materials freely.” Meaning, you can bring in all the accent colors that you like without going overboard.

If graphic is your cup of tea, go for a darker shade of paint on your walls. “Charcoal Cashmere will give the illusion of intimacy while being gender neutral,” Richard says. I say, it’s super chic, warm and will go with everything. Think of this color as your wall’s little gray (black) dress.

The Lush Look: While gray is a hot color right now, Erika Woelfel, Director of Color Marketing for Behr feels opting for jewel tones is another route if you need more color in your life. “Deeper shades of green, blue and purple like Liaison, Your Majesty or Essential Teal will add character,” she says.

But whether you choose to go light or dark, colorful or gray, there is a shade (that isn’t stark white) that will suit you. Happy sleeping!
