What’s Hot: Surprise Party Guests With This Before-Dinner Drink
I hit up my neighborhood’s newest hot spot, Claudette, to see what all the buzz was about. (It’s mobbed during all opening hours!) This charming little Provencal restaurant (look how cute it is!) has a great bar menu that offers up a tasty list of aperitifs, not to mention so much rosé (my fav!).
Wondering what exactly is an aperitif? This typically alcoholic drink is dry, light and used to wake up the appetite. Drink before your meal, and you’ll feel refreshed and ready to eat.
While waiting for my table, I tried the restaurant’s signature drink, the Claudette Citron. This little citrusy sip is made with Ricard, a French anise-flavored liqueur and super fresh lemon syrup. So tasty! It’s the perfect starter for your next dinner party, so try out this easy recipe at home. Bon santé!
1 ounce Ricard
1 ounce lemon syrup (recipe, below)
Add the Ricard and lemon syrup into a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously and pour the mixture into your favorite glass (like a tumbler) filled with ice. Add a splash of club soda, stir lightly and serve.
How to Make the Lemon Syrup:
500 grams sugar
Zest three of the lemons, setting the zest aside. Next, juice the remaining five lemons, setting the juice aside. Combine the juice, zest and sugar in a quart container. Fill with hot water while stirring. Cover and cool in a fridge for one day. Then strain the syrup before use.
