Date Your Mate Month: Steal Ideas From These Celeb Couples’ First Dates
In honor of May being Date Your Mate month (combined with our love for cute celeb couples), we rounded up five of our favorite red carpet fixtures’ first-date ideas to get you inspired. After all, if Michelle Obama was easily wooed by ice cream, chances are your partner will be too!
1. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner kept it sporty.
It’s no secret that Ben’s a huge Red Sox fan, so his future wife had to eventually be one too, right? Ben and Jen’s first date was watching the Sox in the 2004 World Series and — what could be cuter? — sharing a hot dog.
2. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale kept it boozy.
“I threw a party in New Orleans just as an excuse to hang out with her,” Gavin told Details. “We drank a bunch of hurricanes and went around the French Quarter. We had our first kiss that night, just walking around, being careful to step over the puddles of pee. The next day we had that sort of cute, embarrassed, sober meet-up.”
3. Jessica Alba and Cash Warren kept it casual.
“The first day I spent with my husband, we were just friends. We went on a bike ride,” Jessica said in an interview. “I just came up with anything so we could spend time together. I was like, ‘Want to go get some licorice at the 7/11?’ … It evolved into something more, I met my best friend and that was a great day.”
4. Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham kept it holy.
“We met through a mutual friend in New York,” Mark told Glamour UK. “I asked if she wanted to hang out the next day and she did, so I said, ‘Well, come to church with me.’ She was raised a Christian, not a Catholic like me. She did come – and now she’s converted.”
5. President Barack Obama and FLOTUS Michelle Obama kept it sweet.
“On our first date, I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb,” President Obama wrote in O. “I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate.”
