Turn Your Tableware Into a Conversation Starter (Seriously!)
Now that we’ve covered big-picture table design, it’s time to talk tableware! The right dishes and silverware make your table look more beautiful and inviting–and the meal even more memorable. Drinking a cup of tea from fine bone china somehow makes the tea actually taste better, just like eating off of a beautiful plate makes the food even more mouthwatering. With these fun tips I hope you will enjoy every meal more too.
Mix and match plate styles from different collections. Whether you have a few sets of china of your own or simply like the idea of acquiring mismatched vintage pieces at flea markets, nothing looks more relaxed and chic than mixing china. From combining different colors to layering diverse patterns, have fun with it–but keep each setting or every other setting the same for a cohesive look.
Stack it up. Layering different shaped plates, in opposite directions, with a napkin and place mat adds texture to your tabletop (see above).
Use plates made from unique materials. Plain old porcelain party after party can be boring–shake things up with plates made from wood, glass or metal.
Use charger plates. This decorative plate, which goes under your dinner dishes and is used instead of a place mat, adds pizzazz to an ordinary white plate.
