Organization Tip of the Day: Color Code Your Filing System

use brightly colored folders Photo: The Nest

Tired of sorting through your folders to find the documents you need? Come up with a color coding system –say, red files for documents about your home — to help you find what you need more quickly.

How to do it:

  • Skip standard (and boring) manila folders in favor of neon colors. Fluorescent blues, pinks and yellows should do the trick when it comes to sorting essential documents.
  • Keep labels basic and use black text on a white background (as seen in the photo above).

Expert tip: Once a year, plan to do a total sweep of your office to clear our any unimportant files and paperwork, making sure to shred financial or other sensitive material.
