Organization Tip of the Day: Use Dual-Purpose Furniture

Maximize space by choosing furniture that does double duty. For example, a chic skirted console tablecan double as a TV stand and a place to store extra magazines, books and DVDs.
How to do it:
- Find a simple bookcase (I like the ones from the Ikea Expedit line).
- Have your seamstress or upholsterer make a custom-sized table skirt out of your favorite fabric–it will conceal everything underneath. If you’re handy with a sewing machine, you can even DIY.
Expert tip: Utilize boxes, baskets and other storage containers to keep things underneath your table skirt extra tidy.
