Want to Be Santa for a Day? Here’s Your Chance.
Ever wonder where all those letters to Santa go?
This past weekend I discovered that 26 post offices throughout the United States collect them. The letters go into special bins, and Operation Santa volunteers read them. As a result, wishes are granted to underprivileged children.
I had no idea this program existed until I saw a segment about it on the Today Show last Sunday. Honestly, I just figured the mailman threw away anything addressed to Santa.
My next thought was, How do the volunteers know the kids they’re helping are really in need? Then I heard the anchor reading one of the letters. It was from a little girl whose greatest Christmas wish was to have a warm winter coat. My heart broke.
After watching the segment, and covering initiatives such as Giving Tuesday, I’m more inspired than ever to give back in some way this holiday season. So my goal is to actually do something this weekend that will benefit others. If you hadn’t already guessed, I’m leaning toward signing up to become an elf!
Are you inspired to give back this holiday season? If so, what do you plan to do? We may feature your idea in an upcoming article!
