For a seafood kick, throw some oysters on the grill without shucking them (they'll pop open when they're done). Cook them to order as the party goes on for the most tender taste.

Banana Split

Skewers make this summertime favorite more backyard-friendly. To prep, soak wooden skewers in warm water for about 30 minutes so they don't burn. Slide on sliced bananas, pound cake, and pineapples. Grill for about two minutes on each side.

Offer grilled tofu as an alternative to hamburgers and hot dogs for vegetarian friends. Spice up each piece with a sweet and savory marinade and grill for five minutes each side.

Pound Cake

Pick up a pound cake (or make your own) and slice it into bite-sized cubes. Throw it on the grill with pineapples, peaches, and other seasonal summer fruits. Serve with a scoop of ice cream.

Rice Balls

Pick up Japanese short-grain rice at a grocery or specialty store for best results. Cook the rice first and while it's still hot, put single-serve portions in the center of pieces of plastic wrap. To pack the rice, wrap the bundles into one-inch-thick triangles. Brush with melted butter and soy sauce. Grill on both sides until crispy.

Fire up those grills, Nesties: Memorial Day — aka the kickoff weekend for backyard barbecues everywhere — is almost here! Need some novel grilling ideas for your next BBQ? Impress your backyard guests with these unusual goodies you (probably) never knew you could grill!
