We Remember: Mary Richardson Kennedy
Today in tragic news: Mary Richardson Kennedy, 52, was found dead in Bedford, N.Y. She was the estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (the nephew of President John F. Kennedy).
The couple married in 1994 and divorced in 2010. After the separation, Mary went on a downward spiral filled with drugs and alcohol. She hanged herself in a barn on the property she used to share with her husband. Our thoughts and condolences are with Mary’s family and friends.
It’s heartbreaking even to think that a marriage and/or divorce (news reports indicate that in this case, it was both) could be the source of so much sadness and stress. It’s a sobering reminder of how thankful we should be if we’re among the lucky ones to have healthy, open communication and loving relationships in our own lives.
I once heard some sage advice: In times of sadness, making a list of the people you care about and who care about you (literally counting your blessings) can help pull you out of an isolating situation.
Reaching out to those people, especially when you need them most? Even better.
